I've always been a big fan of making my own food. I started baking my own bread and growing my own produce in college, and quickly moved on to buying up expired milk at the local grocery store and turning it into cheeses that hung in my musty basement. (Then I quickly stopped making those cheeses when I tasted the first one.) One of the things I dig about Portland is the widespread interest in growing, cooking, and brewing local food, whether it's backyard chickens or goats, home-smoked bacon, or even just homebaked cookies.

I decided to start this site when I started canning, and realized I might not actually need 14 jars of plum chutney anytime soon -- but I might want some things I don't really feel up to growing or making. It occurred to me that other people might feel the same way, and might be willing to hand over some of their raw goat's milk or fresh garlic, or even a batch of cookies.

There are no plans to "monetize" this site. I have a "day job" as a freelance Drupal developer, and this is just a fun project I thought I'd start up on the side. If you have ideas for what you'd like to see here, or new uses you'd like to put it to, drop me a line!
